The role of the Board of Directors is to provide leadership to the company and to deliver shareholder value over the long term.
The board's key purpose is to ensure the company's prosperity by collectively directing the company's affairs, whilst meeting the appropriate interests of its shareholders and stakeholders.
It sets the company's values and standards, making sure they align with its strategic aims and desired culture.
In addition to business and financial issues, boards of directors must deal with challenges and issues relating to corporate governance, corporate social responsibility and corporate ethics.
Executive coaching can support the effectiveness of individual directors - and also work with the board as a team.
Joining a board of directors can be a worthwhile stage in your career, a means of leveraging your knowledge and experience; and making a greater contribution.
The ideal time to start preparing for a directorship was probably several years ago; gaining experience on committees and trusts helps you learn the skills and build a relevant record.
However, it is never too late to start. You need to acquire the different skills of directorship, broaden your consumption of the media and extend your network.
Executive coaching can help you develop a strategy, raise your profile and learn how to appraise potential opportunities.
A skilled independent advisor will guide you through the process of identifying your skill set and building criteria for targeting suitable roles.
Entrepreneurs and business owners are the unsung heroes of the economy. Small and medium enterprises are major employers, sources of innovation and can form significant links in the supply chains of international corporates.
Unfortunately, without the infrastructure of major companies behind them, business owners have less access to formal business training.
Many companies are formed on the basis of technology or a trade or craft, with the business owner having had little reason to learn about finance, management or company and employment law.
As companies grow, they will reach certain thresholds of growth and complexity, where more formal knowledge, skills and processes are required.
With my formal education, personal record in business and international experience with companies of all sizes, I look forward to supporting you as a coach and mentor.
Executive coaches help senior leaders and professionals develop outstanding leadership skills and establish a reputation as an authority.
They can help you manage a career change that is congruent with both your ambition and your personal life - which will help towards achieving your long term goals.
Career coaching will help you identify what you really want out of life. A good coach will help you appreciate the skills and experience that you have accumulated. And help you identify opportunities and a network of contacts who can help you.
Together with your coach, you will develop a strategy to achieve the career you really want. It might be progress in your existing organisation. It might require a complete change of direction. You might need to develop or improve some skills.
Your coach will help you with these - starting with your CV, Linkedin entry and a strategy for self-promotion.

“Recognise him for his sharp interventions and a wicked sense of humour. If you think he is being direct, notice the warmth in his eyes. He is driven by curiosity; he wants to make things clear.” Jason Jackman
Richard's ability to bring structure and clarity to my strategic career decision-making and to focus on introspection has enabled me to bring a deep understanding of my strengths and experience. I commend him to you.
I contacted Richard because I was dissatisfied with my current role. After two sessions on Zoom I decided that I would be happy to stay for a couple more years but, in the meantime, lay the foundation for a new role thereafter.
Director Public Affairs
Richard puts you at ease without you knowing it. I thought I was having a casual conversation but by the end I realised that he had identified an entirely new perspective of my skill set. That's the power of a good listener.
Richard is an excellent listener and a natural coach, with deep experience and perspectives. He has an in-depth technical knowledge allied to the skill of being able to deliver the message in an informative and engaging style that makes complex issues simple.
Richard is the most passionate and effective advocate of coaching I have encountered. His blend of integrity, attention to detail and insight ensure that his corporate coaching approach is one you can trust - giving a sure foundation to build upon.
Richard helped me develop a highly successful regional reorganisation and has advised me on governance implications ahead of a change of legal structure. He has been a critical friend, challenging my thinking and highlighting conflicts of interest.
